Pyometria, What is it you might ask?

Well let me introduce you to Coco. She is an adorable, 9 year old and an intact female. In tact means she has not been spayed yet. She presented with weight loss, no appetite, lethargic, diarrhea and hiding under the bed. Of course cats like to be cats and stubborn who will sleep under the bed or not eat if they want too. She was very good at hiding it because when she finally came out she had lost weight, wasn’t doing well. Into the car her parents brought her right to Abby Veterinary Hospital & Emergency.

Once she arrived we knew something was wrong. Right to the diagnostic tests we went. Radiographs, lab work, straight onto IV fluids. It turns out she had a bad infection but unsure where. After seeing that her uterus was infected we knew we had to get the infection down and spay her. She spent a couple nights in hospital with us, mom and dad coming to visit daily. Once she was strong enough we had her in for surgery. Her recovery went fantastic you would have never known she was sick. We have to thank her parents for being so amazing and noticing something was wrong.
